PLANTATION AND ADOPTATION OF A TREE

The plantation of trees is an essential activity that promotes environmental sustainability and helps mitigate the effects of climate change. It involves the process of planting trees or other plants for commercial, ornamental, or environmental purposes. In the Social Connect and Responsibility subject of the 3rd semester Engineering course conducted by the CSE department of Proudha Devaraya Institute of Technology, the first module focuses on the plantation. Supriya m.p have taken the initiative to plant manoranjitham plant as part of this program.

Manoranjitham, the climbing ylang-ylang, is a shrub found in India through to Burma, southern China and Taiwan, having flowers that are renowned for their exotic fragrance. It is also called ylang-ylang vine or tail grape in English, with a variety of names in other languages. The yellow colored flowers of this plant are very fragrant. The flowers are greenish in the beginning and turn yellow with age and the flowers are long lasting with fruity pleasant smell. When young it is a shrub which turns into a climber once attains the height of about 2 meters.

Manoranjitham flowers are quite fragrant, and their oil can be helpful in stressful situations

It is a large woody climber or half-scandent shrub originated in South China, Burma (Myanmar), the Philippines and India. Its flowers are axillary, solitary, or in clusters of two or three, greenish yellow in color when ripe and give a strong smell resembling that of ripened jackfruit. Hence its name in Bengali is 'Kanthali champa' (jackfruit-champa). It flowers almost all the year round but more during the summer and the rains. It is unsuitable for small gardens because of its huge size. It needs pruning to keep it in shape. Propagation is from seeds or layers.

PLANT CARE ,MAINTENANCE AND ADVANTAGES Manoranjitham flower: Planting
Source: Pinterest ,Propagating the manoranjitham flower plant through cuttings is more difficult than growing it from seed. Its seeds should be soaked in room temperature water for a half-hour before planting to speed up the process. Then, they should be planted 1/8 inch deep in mildly acidic and high-quality potting soil. The soil should be kept damp until the seedlings emerge. The process of germination is rather slow.A tropical plant’s fragrant blossoms are enhanced by high humidity. Whether in a greenhouse or other humid environment, it blooms continuously and flourishes throughout the year.
Manoranjitham flower: Plant care

IT is a plant that is native to rainforests and may grow to a height of ten to twelve metres. Since it is a very tall plant, it must be regularly pruned to keep its form. If you live in an area that experiences a lot of wind, you should plant it in front of a structure or a tree since its wood is slender and not very thick, and it has the potential to break off in severe gusts. Once it is fully grown and established, the manoranjitham flower plant is immune to diseases and produces flowers continuously throughout the year.Cananga fruticosa is a dwarf type of manoranjitham flower plant that grows well in containers. Although it may reach a height of 3–5 m without Pruning, it makes an excellent container plant if you do. Its blossoms will not be as fragrant as those of larger varieties, but they are ideal for those with little room. Increase the humidity by placing a tray of stones and water.Manoranjitham flower: Planting

After planting the manoranjan plants, supriya m.p took care to water them adequately, especially during the initial stages of growth. They also applied fertilizers regularly to provide essential nutrients to the plants. They monitored the plants for any signs of pests or diseases and took appropriate measures to control them.As the plants grew, they pruned them to remove dead or diseased branches and to promote better growth and fruiting. They also ensured that the plants were adequately supported with stakes or trellises to prevent damage from wind or heavy load

Manoranjitham flower: Side effects

Many people are allergic to parts of manoranjitham flower, including the phenolic compound isoeugenol. Putting it on your skin might cause irritation and even contact dermatitis. Do not apply pure manoranjitham flower oil to your skin; this goes for all essential oils. If you’re planning on using this oil on a significant area of your body, face, or scalp, first dilute it and do a skin patch test.

Both dogs and cats should avoid consuming manoranjitham flower since it is toxic. You should never rub manoranjitham flower oil into your pet’s skin, claws, or coat, and you should also avoid using it in areas where your pet may potentially lick or breathe it in.

 CONCLUSION :

The plantation of Manoranjitham plants is a significant initiative towards promoting environmental sustainability. It is an excellent example of how individuals can contribute to creating a better future for themselves and their communities. Through this module, we hope to inspire more students to take up similar initiatives and make a positive impact on the world.
